Hi, I notice that there is a game programming competition and its theme is halloween. Participant can use a programming language which this participant likes. Some of you may want to join this competition. A good game made in BBC BASIC may make many people start learning and use BBC BASIC....yes!

I'm actually considering this. If I do choose to 'roll my sleeves up' then I'd have to choose between writing it for either BB4W (my preferred option for various reasons) or BBCSDL for its potentially wider reach. It would be possible to make it BB4W/BBCSDL-agnostic, but perhaps that would be more hassle than it's worth. Anyway, it could be fun either way.

Good! BBCSDL is newer but BB4W should be more stable. Both should be nice and good. Good luck!

I also find the information of the games in the previous competition. You can read it if you want to know more.

Perhaps you should also post on Richards forum, as you never know, he may decide to participate.

Hi David,

The rules require you to submit a .exe file, so I think it would have to be BB4W, since as far as I know you can't make freestanding exe's in BBCSDL (yet).

Of course, that doesn't stop you writing compatible code... smiley

I'm also tempted, but fairly resigned to the fact that I won't get round to it...

Best wishes,

D

I took my laptop to work last night with the specific intention of making a start on my entry for this compo, but simply couldn't get motivated to switch the thing on! Better luck tonight, perhaps.

Yes, I'll stick with BB4W due to the exe file requirement, and because it will be easier and quicker.

I really hope some other BB4W users give this compo a go!

It is hard to get motivated for me also. May have to do with the constant heat (30-40'C) average for so many weeks. I do have A/C but its tough at the end of a day. Eating too much at one sitting and sugar can make a person tired too.

I may roll up my sleeves too as soon as I can get the lag mode overcome. I really need to focus on D3D tools. This must happen.

So, who else apart from me is coding something for this compo?

Three weeks to go smiley

You should be able to win easily.. That is truly amazing quality work. Especially in the time you spent making it.

Wow.

Thanks, Michael. I've worked on it pretty much flat-out (as you can probably imagine). Derron's entry looks very good indeed (except I can't yet get it to run on my PC).

For those that might lack sufficient dexterity to play such a game as 'Forces Of Darkness', or wish to not risk developing RSI* from having to tap the CTRL key thousands of times in a few minutes, here's a poor-quality video of me playing it though to completion:
