Is there anyone using AVAST antivirus still managing to run all their BBC4W programs successfully. I had to abandon using Avast years ago due it failing to run my programs on the pretext of an error warning displayed by Avast of some strange heuristic problem.

I see in the Bloomberg news today Avast is attempting to bid for AVG. If this happens I suppose all our BBC4W will be at risk. Meanwhile I had best create two usefull programs to perform the same purpose using another language.

After getting a new hard drive, I asked if Norton would be sufficient to protect my computer and the tech told me that Windows Defender was good enough on its own and you only needed other types of antivirus if you were downloading pirated or illegal software.. So on your generic sites, for news, facebook, and of course these forums... and lets not forget, World of Warcraft, Windows Defender should be enough. I do still have Norton, but am letting it expire now that I know I will be safe doing the browsing I do. These anti virus software packages are kinda sketchy anyways. I have had problems with them deleting legit software that I paid for. (well Norton did just recently)

I was often told Windows Defender can only be trusted to give limited protection. So beware of downloading risky free software and visiting dubious sites. I gave up Norton years ago due to it slowing up the internet.

If like me any others have had trouble with AVAST displaying strange Heuristic error warnings I have been told by someone involved in the takeover of AVG I use by AVAST it is unlikely I will get such problems after the change about the end of September next.
