xx APLIB.DLL updated
« Thread started on: Jul 21st, 2014, 1:20pm »

Ibsen Software have released a new version of APLIB.DLL:

http://www.ibsensoftware.com/products_aPLib.html

If you use the MalwareBytes anti-virus program and have recently been troubled by it quarantining APLIB.DLL - with the result that BB4W doesn't run - try this new version. You will need to copy it into your BB4W installation folder (typically C:\Program Files\BBC BASIC for Windows\ or, on 64-bit Windows, C:\Program Files (x86)\BBC BASIC for Windows\) which will require administrative privileges.

There is no guarantee that this will help - 'false positive' virus detections are an ever growing problem - but it may do.

Richard
I have replaced APLIB.DLL with the latest update, as you suggested. I am pleased to say that Malawarebytes no longer identifies "backdoor.bot".
Best regards

Hi Richard,

I was unable to find ApLib.dll anywhere in the BB4W folder on my Windows7 64 bit system - which had been working fine until recently.

So I downloaded and extracted the new ApLib version as suggested, and placed a copy in C:\Program Files (x86)\BBC BASIC for Windows\LIB\ which I had to do by disabling MalWareBytes temporarily (else it got blocked each time).

When I try to run BB4W, it still complains that there is no ApLib.dll

I have re-booted the computer, but still no joy.

I am at a loss as to how to get back my full version of BB4W.

Any suggestions please?

Richard.

You put it in the wrong place - it lives one level further up in the hierarchy at C:\Program Files (x86)\BBC BASIC for Windows\ (as I stated in the initial post of this thread).

Thanks Richard. I have moved ApLib.dll, and rebooted the computer, but now the message is "The application was unable to start correctly (0xc000007b). Click OK to close the application"

Regards,

Richard.

I don't know what that means, but your best bet is to re-install BB4W from scratch, then copy the updated APLIB.DLL. That should fix it.

Edit: Further, double-check that you downloaded the latest APLIB.DLL successfully; that error can apparently be caused by a corrupted DLL. Sometimes, a download fails and the file is truncated.
